Adoptee Heart to Heart
When first asked about an online support group, I was hesitant as I was unsure how support groups fit under the umbrella of my clinical licensure. I did a little research and I found I can run an online support group across state lines (yay!) as long as its rooted in support and not therapy. And while I still offer group therapy for adoptees, not all adoptees can access the group because of state licensure laws. Adoptee Heart to Heart will have a lot of the same topics and activities I offer in group therapy. But it will have some differences. Below are some key features of Adoptee Heart to Heart:
1. Each group will have a topic and supplemental activity (because doing exercises other than talking, can enhance the awareness and understanding of ones story)
2. I will limit the groups to 8 people
3. The group will be “closed,” meaning that once the group members are solidified, there will be no more group members added to that particular group. So the same group members will attend the same group each week.
**Not having to reexplain your story to new members and receiving support from those you have bonded with can enhance therapeutic elements**
4. It will be confidential, held on a HIPAA compliant platform
5. It will be run by an adopted clinician (me)

Price: $30 per group
Outline: Each group will be around 60- 90 minutes and groups will be weekly. I have outlined 11 group topics ranging from attachment, loss, trauma, identity, intimacy etc. The beauty of a small group atmosphere is that we can decide together if you would like to add more groups once we go through all 7 layers of “issues in adoption.”
