FAQs

What’s the process of meeting with you online?

First step is to send me a message to schedule a consultation. After we decide that we would be a good fit, a link will be sent to your email to complete intake paperwork. All the paperwork and signatures can be done online. There is nothing to print! Once we set a time for your appointment, you will receive a link in your email for your scheduled session. It’s really easy!

Do I have to download anything or pay extra for telehealth?

No. Nothing for you to download or pay for on your end. All you need is a comfortable private space, good internet, a smart phone, tablet, laptop or personal computer.

Does online counseling work?

Telemental health services can be just as effective as face to face therapy. When you have free time, online therapy can easily fit into your schedule. However, online telemental health therapy is not for everyone. Together will continue to access your needs and goals and determine if online therapy is an appropriate fit.

How do you approach therapy?

I approach therapy as a collaboration. Our therapeutic relationship must be developed and maintained for you to see the best results. Once we have established a good foundation, we will then begin to explore the stressors in your life, your coping styles (both healthy and unhealthy) and your overall goals which brought you to therapy. I have no set time of 6 weeks or 12 weeks, I follow your lead.

What are some differences of support groups and group therapy?

The main differences between a support group and group therapy is the purpose of the group. Support groups focus on coping and group therapy is focused on change.

What are some of the similarities of support groups and group therapy?

Both support group and group therapy offer a safe environment to explore issues and concerns. And both offer the benefit of increasing self-awareness, making new connections with others and gaining a sense of community. Both help combat the isolation that one can feel when dealing with emotions related to adoption, separation, loss and grief, reunion and parenthood.

What is group therapy?

Group therapy is a form of counseling where a small group of people meet regularly to discuss, interact, and explore life problems with each other and the group leader. Group counseling seeks to give individuals a safe and comfortable place where they can work out problems and emotional concerns.

What kinds of group therapy do you offer?

Current openings are for an adult adoptee group centered around the complexities of adoption and foster care. I am also developing a group for teen adoptees but it is not offered at this time.

What is group therapy like?

Group therapy is more structured and focuses on individual growth of each member with the help of the facilitator (me). Group facilitators use specific therapeutic interventions to help the group advance and grow as individuals, together. Members in group therapy do find support but because of the structured content, it allows for members to focus on their growth.

What are the benefits of group therapy?

Group therapy is more affordable than individual therapy and studies have shown that it may be just as effective. It is through group therapy that individuals are given the opportunity to work on their internal issues with others, the hope is to bring deep personal change.
